Option #1 - Buy only the mechanics of the Dynamic Perceptions controller and use the TB3 as the primary controller. This saves some dollars as you only need one controller, but watch out – you need more parts from DP!
If you are budget conscious and only want the TB3 to drive the rails then you have option. I would recommend giving Dynamic Perceptions a call and letting them know what you are doing. If the person on the other end of the line is new and doesn’t understand, the following statement will clarify it for them
I need a full motorized setup, minus exactly two items:
MX controller / AC Adapter
The DC motor
Another way of saying this is, I need an unmotorized setup, plus:
The end clips (I think these are standard with the stage 1)
The idler pulleys/HW
The motor’s timing pulley
Option #2 - Buy a full motorized setup from Dynamic Perceptions.
We have lots of customers have both the TB3 and the MX2 or MX3. If you want to use the DP rails for slider only moves, we think the MX series controllers are great. Sometimes a single axis move without the TB3 is what you need. You have everything you need from DP already but to make the transition between the single axis or three axis system, I would also recommend that you pick up up a Quick Change Motor from DP.
**For Stage 1 users, please note that we supply motors that have a 22mm boss, 8mm shaft and a 28 mm bolt hole center. This is the industry standard for these type of motors. We have had reports from one user who ordered this way that got a Stage 1 plate where the hole that the motor boss inserts into, was smaller than 22 mm. We believe these are unintended manufacturing differences in the S1 plates. To make this work, a few minutes of filing was required on the motor bosses. We are certain of the dimensions and these are not changing on our motors and this isn’t happening to everyone. If you don’t want the chance of this happening, all users have had great success with the quick change motor mounts from DP – grab one on those!
